How do I use the smart dispense function? I have soap in the dispenser but the panel never lights up, soap level has never gone down.

I have a GE GFW850SPN2DG washing machine. After about a year of use, the smart dispense started telling me the tank is low and it has 0 loads left. I refill the tank and the red low tank light does not go away. Nothing is clogged because the detergent level goes down with each load. So the machine is dispensing perfectly, but it just keeps saying it has no detergent. I have cleaned out the detergent tray just in case. I have also unplugged the machine for 10 minutes and plug back in, but it still shows the alert.
