The Central Mass. High School Sports Awards is proud to announcethe player of the year nominees for girls' volleyball. The winners will be announced during the live show on Wednesday, June 26, at the Hanover Theatre.

During the live show, athletes of the year in 31 sports will be honored. In addition, top teams, coachesand overall athletes will be honored as will a CourageAward winner. Nominatedathletes who RSVP will receive a complimentary ticketto the event thanks to sponsors.Details on howadditionaltickets can be obtained will be available soon.

The Central Mass. High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country. This year, one school from the area will win a $1,000 donation to its school’s athletic department through our School Spirit Contest. Details on how to vote for your school will be coming soon.

Quinn Anderson

Westborough High

Senior, Outside Hitter

One of the most decorated players to ever come from the area, this senior captain capped off her historic four-year career in style with Westborough. Setting a school record of 430 kills, which also led the state, Anderson also compiled 191 digs and 63 aces to lead the Rangers to their second straight Division 2 state championship. “She is a humble leader who elevates those around her while holding herself to the highest standards,” coach and father Roger Anderson said. Anderson also secured her fourth MAVCA All-State selection, third Mid-Wach A MVP honor and second Massachusetts Girls' Volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year award. A four-time T&G Hometeam all-star, Anderson will play volleyball at Stony Brook University. She is the daughter of Beth and Roger Anderson of Grafton.

Gianna Boyers

Shrewsbury High

Junior, Middle Blocker

This junior dominated the center of the court for the Colonials this fall while etching her name into the Shrewsbury history books. A 5-foot-10 middle blocker, Boyers buoyed a strong Shrewsbury offensive and defensive attack that resulted in an 18-5 record and a Division 1 playoff win over Westford. Boyers’ 57 blocks set a single-season record for Shrewsbury while breaking the program’s all-time mark for blocks in a career. Her 0.352 hitting percentage ranked No. 1 in Mid-Wach A and was coupled with 187 kills. Boyers’ 12 kills and 6 blocks in a reverse sweep of Algonquin in the CMADA Class A final was her favorite memory of the season. A Division 1 all-state selection, Boyers is the daughter of Tiffany Boyers and Gordon Watt.

Alexyss Chartier

Blackstone-Millville Regional

Senior, Outside Hitter

Coming off a 2022 campaign during which she seta single-season record for kills at BMR, Chartier outdid herself this fall. A senior outside hitter, Chartier compiled a new team record of 341 kills in a season to along with animpressive stat lineof 269 serve receives, 206 digs and 70 aces. A two-time T&G Hometeam all-star selection, this captain was named to the MAVCA all-state team and a Dual Valley Conference first-team all-star. Her favorite memory of the season came when Chartier (28 kills, 13 digs) led the Chargers to a 3-2 comeback victory over Millbury in the CMADA Class C title game. The daughter of Nikki and Dan Chartier of Blackstone, Chartier hopes to become a crime scene investigator.

Amirah Cochran-Valentin

Millbury High

Junior, Outside Hitter

At 5-foot-4, this junior captain wasn’t the biggest outside hitter in the area this fall. But Cochran-Valentin let her play stand tall. Cochran-Valentin collected 238 service points, 231 digs, 122 kills and 77 aces for a Woolies squad that won the SWCL title and a Division 3 playoff contest over Lynn Tech. A SWCL first-team all-star, Cochran-Valentin's top memory of the season came when she provided 18 digs, 11 kills and 5 aces in a comeback win over Oxford on Sept. 20. Daughter of Milagros Valentin-Sanchez and Edwin Cochran-Colon of Millbury, this 16-year-old enjoys writing and wants to become a lawyer.

Katelyn Julian

Nipmuc Regional

Senior, Setter

Setting the table for the Warriors’ remarkable regular season run was this senior setter from Mendon. Julianaccumulated 507 assists, 84 aces and 60 kills to lead Nipmuc to a 17-2 regular-season record, which included just two losses to Algonquin and a 9-0 mark in the Dual Valley Conference. The all-time assists leader (1,518) in program history, Julian earned her second straight T&G Hometeam all-star selection and third consecutive Dual Valley all-star nod. “Nothing scares her,” coach Brian Gerard said. “She’s fearless.” Daughter of Kerrie and Chuck Julian, this 18-year-old will play softball at Regis College and hopes to become a labor and delivery nurse.

Caroline Macaulay

Algonquin Regional

Senior, Outside Hitter

Saving her best for last this fall, this senior powered the Titans to their first Division 2 Final Four appearance. Macaulay proved to be key in Algonquin’s three playoff wins over Masconomet, Plymouth South and North Quincy before the Titans came up just short in a state semifinal loss to Canton. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter finished the season with 244 kills, 220 digs and 44 aces while being named to the MVACA all-state team and Mid-Wach A all-star team. During her career at Algonquin, Macaulay accumulated 400 digs, 377 kills and 105 digs. A piano player, Macaulay is the daughter of Christina and Mark Macaulay of Northborough.

Addy Moore

Westborough High

Senior, Libero

Serving as the backbone to her team’s defense this fall, this captain provided more than enough from her libero position to help theRangers claim their second straight Division 2 state championship. This 5-foot-4 senior compiled 207 digs, 45 aces and 19 assists as Westborough lost just one match, and nine sets, all season. Moore received her second Mid-Wach A all-star selection and first MVACA all-state honor. “She is a tremendous teammate who makes those around her better,” coach Roger Anderson said. The daughter of Lisa and Sean Moore of Grafton, Moore plans to either major in elementary education or criminal justice in college.

Siena Mueller

Whitinsville Christian

Junior, Libero

Among a strong field of players from a tough Dual Valley Conference this fall, this junior’s season stacked up high against some of the stiffest competition around. A libero, Mueller managed to average 18.3 digs, 16.6 service points and 5 aces per match to help the Crusaders cruise to a 17-7 record, which included Division 3 playoff wins over Smith Vocational and Lenox. A DVC first-team all-star, Mueller also enjoys skiing, golfing, traveling and spending time with friends. The daughter of Carol and Ben Mueller of Whitinsville, Mueller is looking into becoming an international business major.

Isabella Rand

Advance Math & Science Academy

Senior, Outside Hitter/Libero

As consistent as they come over the past half-decade, this selfless senior moved from her usual spot of libero to outside hitter this season and didn’t skip a beat. “She waswilling to play out of position to do what was best for the team,” coach Joe Bengiovanni said. A five-year starter for the Eagles, Rand racked up 198 kills, 376 serve receptions, 308 digs and 57 aces this fall. The two-year captain, two-time Colonial Athletic League MVP andthree-time T&G Hometeam all-star honoree holds the AMSA all-time records for aces, digs and service receptions. The daughter of Edilaine and Scott Rand of Marlborough, Rand hopes to play competitive volleyball in college while possibly studying nursing.

Dana Schechter

Nipmuc Regional

Senior, Outside Hitter

Teaming up with fellow T&G Hometeam all-star Katelyn Julian, this seniorcaptain provided the power for a Warriors team that went undefeated inDual Valley Conference play this fall. A 5-foot-9 outside hitter, Schechter secured 268 kills, 109 digs and 47 aces en route to being named the DVC Player of the Year. A two-time T&G Hometeam all-star selection, Schechter holds the Nipmuc record for kills in a career and helped the Warriors claim back-to-back conference titles in her final two seasons. The daughter of Yulia and Kiril Schechter of Upton, this 17-year-old hopes to someday become a physical therapist.

Lauren Shurling

Hudson High

Senior, Outside Hitter

As sure-handed as they come, this 5-foot-10 outside hitter was stellar in her final season with the Hawks. A two-time T&G Hometeam all-star, Shurling’s stats were eye-popping this fall thanks to 225 kills, 261 serve receives, 194 digs, 95 aces and 15 blocks. Shurling helped Hudson go a perfect 6-0 in Mid-Wach B play before securing two Division 2 playoff wins. Shewas selected to the MVACA all-state team and as the Midland-Wachusett League B MVP for a second straight season. The daughter of Pamela and Wayne Shurling of Hudson, this 17-year-old will study nursing at Salve Regina University.

Joranni Souphida

Douglas High

Junior, Libero

In a conference chalk full of standout players, thisjunior libero from Douglas certainly left her mark. Souphida secured 368digs this fall, ranking her first in the DualValley Conference, for a total of 761 in two seasons with the Tigers. The 5-footer played big in a 3-2 win over Hopedale on Oct. 2, when she gathered 22 digs and nine kills to help Douglas beat the Blue Raiders for the first time in 11 years. Souphida also collected 35 digs and five acesin a 3-2 victory over Southbridge in a Division 5 playoff match on Nov. 2. A DVC first-team all-star this fall, the daughter of Sokhary and Thinnakone Souphida wants to go into pre-med or nursing.
