Guardian of the Hunt - Chapter 46 (2024)

33 MINUTES EARLIER

"More and more attacks are happening in Alaska according to the Satyrs, and Cyclops population is rising in the South," Hermes stated, standing up from his throne and delivering the depressing news. Dionysus placed a hand on the bottom of his chin and stroked it, lifting his other hand lazily to conjure a glass of red wine.

"Yes, the Satyrs are getting more and more fewer as the days go by. It seems that the monsters have deemed them to be the food source of the army. A shame really, I rather liked my little companions." Dionysus mumbled, earning a few rolls of the eyes from the others. They had grown sick and tired of his constant useless remarks and seemingly careless comments. Maybe he did deep down care that his Satyrs were being eaten, but that was not likely. Aphrodite sighed deeply, slouching back into her chair and gazing off into the distance with a lost look in her eyes.

"If only there was more love in this world..." She trailed off. Athena ignored Aphrodite before standing up form her Throne.

"Well, you all heard about what is happening with the Demigods. An army marches for them as we speak, it may already be there. I say we ignore the fates and fight with our brave children," She argued, tapping the end of her spear heavily on the ground.

"You heard what the fates said. If we help the children will die anyway - we'd be signing their damned death warrants," Zeus replied, nodding his head. For someone supposedly so wise, she was not meeting their expectations.

"Well then what do you expect us to do. Just sit here and watch them die?" Apollo snapped, surprising us all as he usually never snapped in situations like these. He was always the lighthearted and joking one when all seemed lost. "How many more of my children are to die. Helena was... she made me proud with the way she turned out and... it was messed up that she died the way she did. We need to intervene. We need to stop that army before more massacred-"

"And we will," interjected Poseidon, looking down at his hands. "They said we cannot directly be there ourselves and help, but we can send things and wreak havoc for the army on the way. I have already given them a storm from hell. Apollo you can give them a harsh and burning sun, Hades you can make sinkholes and trap them in the Earth. Hermes you can prevent fast travel and Hephaestus you can create a wild but controlled forest fire. It's a brilliant loophole that hopefully the fates have not discovered. It is worth a try is it not?"

"I agree with my brother," Demeter added, rising one of her delicate hands. "I can rot their food."

"I suppose I could lend a hand and cause some monsters to attack there own," Dionysus added, before leaning back lazily into his throne. It was surprising that he contributed and decided to help. Athena was about to contribute as well, but a shiver ran down her spine, tumbling all over the place. Something was not right.

"You feel it to?" Hades spoke up, sitting up straight immediately and looking towards the left door that led to the gardens.

"What brother, what is it that you feel?" Zeus questioned, placing his hand on his lightening bolt.

Hades was about to answer, but before any had a chance to react the door burst open, revealing a once loved young demigod. She looked different this time though. Her hair was duller than usual, messed by dirt and grime of having no cleaning resources. Her eyes glowed a bright red with burning rage, two daggers were gripped tight in her hands, her knuckles turning white. They had no chance to move before another figure made its appearance, and immediately the Olympians grabbed weapons, standing in their defensive stances.

"Menoetius," Hephaestus growled out in vexation, whereas Athena shouted her daughters name in shock and pain. It was still a fresh wound in her mind that her daughter was a traitor to Olympus. "You dare to rise again. Let us put you back in your place."

Menoetius came through the doorway but then froze in place, his glowing eyes and lava black skin turned a luminescent purple as some form of barrier held him from going any further - courtesy of Dionysus as he willed large, thick vines to rise from the marble ground and trap them in a cocoon against his barrier. Sweat had already begun to gather on the side of his forehead as he gritted his teeth and strained, pushing all of his power into the task at hand. Surprisingly Aphrodite then joined in, pink ribbon flowing from the sleeves in her long robes and wrapping around Annabeth who was somehow immune to the barrier and held her back next to Menoetius. At that moment, the Gods thought that they had the upper hand. Weapons were still, however, at the ready to attack. Hades stepped forwards a little, cautious of the two enemies that were held before them.

"You think these simple vines can hold me back?" Menoetius darkly chuckled, tilting his head back to let a loud guffaw at the ceiling. "I am more powerful than I have ever been," one vine snapped and was quickly burned to dust on the floor. "These vines are like tiny little bones - so easy to snap," several more vines broke as Menoetius sneered at the Gods. "You are all so sure of your ability to defeat me but deep down you know I am going to be a force to be reckoned with."

Annabeth also managed to slip out of the ribbon, and sprinted towards the nearest person that happened to be Hestia. Ares was quick to intercept, raising a blade to her daggers and simply batting them away towards Menoetius who had leapt forwards and straight through the barrier that Dionysus had created. As soon as the barrier was gone, Dionysus stumbled backwards to his throne to catch his breath, allowing Hephaestus, Poseidon and Zeus to meet Menoetius. It was a mere few seconds before Annabeth had been tackled to the ground and knocked out by the God of War, she of course being a demi-god was no match. Menoetius however had definitely improved in strength and was definitely giving the Gods a battle. Apollo brought out a harp from his throne and shook it around, forcing a terribly quick paced and complicated tune out that was supposed to slow Menoetius down for a bit; it went wrong when Menoetius somehow managed to grab it and snap it, angering Apollo at the sight of his broken instrument.

Poseidon poured his fury onto the beast, as did Zeus when he tried to zap Menoetius unsuccessfully with his lightening bolts. Hermes and Hades stood a little to the back with Demeter, making sure Dionysus was OK and sending a couple of well aimed and annoying hits. Aphrodite had managed to drag the young demigod away from the fight, not caring if Annabeth got any more hurt, severely pissing of Athena as she did so.

Things started to get out of hand very quickly though. One throne had been demolished already angering Hephaestus since it was his. He could tell this throne room will be gone soon if they did not move this fight to else-where. Hermes seemed to have the same idea as he grabbed onto the cloth of Hades and Demeter, drawing power from them as he pictured a quiet and fairly empty place, somewhere near Alaska. The fight would have to take place there. And then with all of the strength he could muster...

The Gods disappeared.

All but one.
